What happened to all the dividend blogs?

Hello folks, welcome back to Late Twenties and Broke. I’m your host Jonny F, and today I’m asking the question: Where did all the dividend blogs go?

This is a question I actually asked months and months ago, but I am balls-deep in online college and work and the gym and I just really didn’t have time to finish this article.

But basically, when I was in high school and college around 2009-2012, I remember Mr Money Mustache and A LOT of other personal finance blogs.

I remember Mad Fientist, I loved listening to his podcast on my 45 minute commute for this one construction site. He made everything sound so possible.

I remember being a security guard, staying up all night with a radio while reading Early Retirement Extreme and thinking “There’s no way I’m being a vegetarian who lives in an RV”. I really remember having his green book in the backseat of my Chevy Cavalier, with the pages dog-eared and plenty of spots underlined with pen.

At the time, I was building my emergency fund and avoiding any new debt while having a net worth of -$11,500 in student loans. I watched my budget like a hawk, and eventually paid off my student loans. Fast forward 15 years, with a move to the USA in the middle. Now I am here in 2025, with a net worth of $100,000.

At the time, there were a lot of dividend blogs as well. Blogs whose names I don’t remember. Seems all the Index Fund folks stuck around, while the dividend people fell off for the most part. Here’s a status report I wrote up of all the dividend blogger’s from back then, which I sourced from one of my role models, Dividend Pig‘s blogroll. He hasn’t posted since 2022 though. He was really buying some big positions every month and it was such an inspiration for me. I really related to his story about watching Fight Club every time he flies somewhere. Without any more delay, here is the list of all the dividend bloggers we lost along the way:

I’ve shifted back and forth, from dividend-growth investing originally (inspired by Warren Buffet and Rich Dad Poor Dad, to the cold scientific method of Index Investing (following Mr Money Mustache, Early Retirement Extreme and Financial Samurai.). At this specific moment in time, I do both. I’ve been putting 10% of my income in index funds for 7 years now, and for the past year I’ve been adding some dividend-positions to my Robinhood.

I am due for another net worth update for sure, which y’all should be seeing soon. Should be every quarter. I actually have one from May all typed up that I never published. I’m slacking. I gotta stay Consistent on here.

I’m rooting for all y’all,
Keep your stick on the ice,
Jonny F
